We often hear heartwarming stories about dogs and their owners all over the internet. Dogs are known for their unconditional love and loyalty, thus they often do amazing things to show their feelings to their masters. However, these adorable creatures could have a share of heartbreaks, too. Such is the lesson realized by a man with his newly-adopted pet
A Chinese man recently adopted a Golden Retriever from an animal shelter, and his family loved the dog. However, it started acting strangely whenever it was time for bed. The dog would stay outside its master’s bedroom every night to watch him fall asleep.
At first, the man thought the dog was just not yet accustomed to its new home. But even after some time, the strange habit did not go away. The owner was becoming creeped out of the dog’s strange behavior. The man tried playing with the dog during daytime to get it tired and sleep at night, but it never worked. Despite being exhausted the whole day, it would still stay at his door and stare at him as he fell asleep.
He was now worried that the dog might have some medical condition, so he brought the dog for a check-up. The vet said there was nothing wrong with his pet, and was in fact healthy. Unsatisfied, he decided to go back to the animal shelter where he adopted the dog to find answers. There he found out the heartbreaking truth.
According to the animal shelter worker, the dog’s previous owner had to give it up due to his pregnant wife. It turned out; they could no longer care for their pet. While the dog was sleeping, they quietly sneaked it out of the house and sent it to the animal shelter late at night.
The traumatized dog, waking up at a shelter after sleeping, no longer dared to sleep at night due to fear of being sent away again like what his previous master did.
The man could not help but cry upon learning the real reason. When he went home that day, he removed the fence at his bedroom door and placed the dog’s bed into his bedroom so it can sleep with him at night. He wanted to give some sense of security to the poor dog so that it can sleep soundly at night.
Having a pet is also a lifetime commitment. Abandoning them, when they have given all their trust and loyalty towards us also break them, just as humans would be hurt by another’s betrayal. Imagine the heartbreak the dog must have felt when it woke up at a shelter and realizing he was betrayed and abandoned.
