The world’s heaviest woman Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty, weighing 500 kilograms, left her hometown in Egypt to an Indian city to undergo a weight reduction surgery to save her life.
But before she could arrive in India, the team transporting her had to overcome a lot of obstacles. First, a wall of her bedroom had to be torn down in able to bring her out the house. She was then lifted by a crane before boarding an Egypt Air cargo plane.
After a seven-hour long flight, she landed in Chhatrapati Shivaji International airport and transported via a mini truck to Saifee Hospital in Mumbai where she will undergo a series of Bariatric procedures.
Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty weighs 1,102 pounds or 500 kilograms and was bedridden for twenty five years.
A crane was used to lift her out of her house.
The 36 year-old woman had not left her home in Alexandria for the past 25 years. When she was only eleven years old, Eman suffered a cerebral stroke which left her bedridden. But before that, she was already born weighing five kilograms and suffered from thyroid problems since she was a child.
It was later discovered that she was suffering from elephantiasis, a medical condition that makes limbs or other body parts swell due to a parasitic infection. Furthermore, her condition is also described as disruption of the glands which means her body stores and retains more water than it should.
When she was only eleven years old, she suffered a cerebral stroke which made her condition worse.
Her family launched a social media campaign to help save her.
Her sister Shaimaa initiated social media campaign #SaveEman in a desperate plea to save her life. Fortunately, it caught the attention of Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, a world-famous obesity surgeon from Mumbai, who then help the family raise funds and make travel arrangements for Eman.
“She is battling with her life every single day,” Dr. Lakdawala said. “Right now she is like a living bombshell, which could blow up on her any moment.”
But despite being a high-risk patient, Dr. Lakdawala said that they will be taking all necessary precautions and will exert his best effort to give Eman a new lease in life. The good doctor had even offered to carry out the procedure free of charge.
